If you are a man, you might believe that you should hide your aches and pains so as not to appear soft, hold in your feelings so you won't seem overly emotional and keep going through it all and last forever. From the time you came into this world as a little boy, these are the images you've been fed--don't cry, don't care what others think, trust no one, take care of everyone else, be the vessel of someone's happiness, be a sexy Love God, and overzealous for success---no matter what it takes! And how does this Superman perception that most cultures readily accept and rarely question, effect a man's health and wellness? That's right, you listening and watching me right now, it does affect your health and wellness.
1. Did you realize that out of the top 10 killers, men die at higher rates than women from the top 10 causes of death and are the victims of over 92% of workplace deaths?
2. In 1920, women lived, on average, one year longer than men. Now, according to the CDC, men, on average, die almost six years earlier than women.
3. Do you hold in your feelings even when they are getting the best of you? Depression in men is undiagnosed, contributing to the fact that men are 4x as likely to commit suicide.
4. Who is the weaker sex? Do you think it matters most that you can run faster, lift more weights and bring home more bacon? Is this what you think makes you stronger? Well, according to the Men's Health Report, 115 males are conceived for every 100 females.
5. The male fetus is at greater risk of miscarriage and stillbirth.
6. 25% more newborn males die than females.
7. 3 out of 5 still infant death syndrome victims are boys.
8. Testosterone is linked to elevations of LDL, the bad cholesterol, and declines in HDL, the good cholesterol.
9. Men have fewer infection fighting T-cells and are thought to have weaker immune systems than women.
10. And by the age of 100, women outnumber men eight to one.
Why is this all the case? Because you are less likely to visit the doctor for preventive care. The stress that you experience on a daily basis has no communication outlet because you think that working out or exercising is sufficient...but yet, those suppressed emotions live active inside your body excreting toxins to your body constantly.
Prosper!
