There are some personalitites that are addictive. That is, they are in some ways predisposed to addiction of any kind. Here are some signs that you may have an addictive personality and what to do about it.
People who have difficulty thinking about the long term consequences of their actins are more susceptible to developing an addiction.
Insecurity and those who h ave difficulty dealing with stress may more quickly turn to addictive bahaviors or substances in an attempt to alleviate stress in the short turn in order to deal with negative emotions.
Those who suffer from other mental illnesses, such as anxiety disorders, depression or absessive-compulsive disorder, are also at greater risk for developing addictions. They may turn to an addiction as a way to reliee their other problems.
People who already have strong habitual attachments to socially acceptable behaviors, such as coffee drinking, overeating, excessive television, may be at risk for more serious addictions. Be watchful of their behaviors, particularly in stressful or emotional situations.
No matter whether you have identifed that you have an addictive personality or not, don't panic. You can Avoid Addiction of any kind:
The good news is: If you are aware of the traits of addictive personality, you are in a better position to avoid the behaviors that lead to long-term addictions. Simply having these traits does not guarantee that you will become an addict.
1) Be aware of your own habits and tendencies
2) Actively make choices that avoid repetitive and addictive behavior before it becomes an issue for which you need to seek professional help.
3) If the signs of addiction show up, get help right away. The longer you wait the harder it will become to shake it.
4) Be knowledgeable. Perhaps knowing what signs to look for may also help you recognize a problem in those you love and care about.
Someday, we will all be able to turn away from looking for quick fixes when our lives are not working out the way we'd wish. On that day, your GNP (Gross Happiness Product) will be more important than that of any Gross National Product!! Remember those words and choose to live without addiction of any kind. If need be, don't try to fight the battle alone. Please get help!
Prosper!
